Health & Safety

Although all elements of the transport and logistics industry have made great progress over the years, we recognise that our workplace still involves some high-risk activities which we have a moral duty to manage effectively so that we can better protect our staff from risks.

Many of our existing and potential customers are becoming increasingly conscientious when it comes to choosing a provider which can demonstrate a live and workable Health & Safety plan.

COVID-19 STATMENT:

We are in unprecedented times and, like campanies across the country, we are adapting the way we work in response to COVID-19. We take our responsibilities to our staff, drivers and stakeholders extremely seriously and recognise that the rapidly evolving situation necessitates flexibility and adaptability. We recognise that all of us will be getting to grips with this ‘new reality’ and are busy putting new working practices and procedures in place at the same time as focusing on supporting our partners and customers.

In the meantime, below are some useful links that provide some immediate support and guidance:

Moreover, a safe working environment is a productive environment. This means we can maximise efficiency so that day-to-day costs are minimised, which allows us to sustain a competitive stance in our local marketplace. Various health & safety schemes have been regularly implemented across the years to ensure all Welch Group employees and the general public are kept as safe as possible.

As part of the Safe Urban Driver Scheme (SUD), our drivers took part in a day’s training, with fully qualified professional instructors, to better understand the potential perils that cyclists face on the road. A morning was spent on theory based work before an afternoon on difficult roads left our drivers knowing exactly how best to protect vulnerable pedestrians and road users.

As part of our determination to avoid complacency, we have recently employed the experienced services of Hosking Associates to carry out a Health & Safety audit. Together, we’ve created a prioritised action plan and undertaken IOSH-certificated training with Tony Welch, Chris Welch, our Driver Training Officer and all members of the senior management team across all Welch Group businesses.

Through ongoing investment in Health & Safety, we can continue to evolve by engaging with all staff in assessing risk and feeding the results into the plan so that we develop a safer business with safer staff delivering a safer service to our customers.
